Dial-up Networking Configuration Instructions
Step
1: Checking if Dial-up Networking
is installed on your PC
1.
Go to: START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES | COMMUNICATIONS.
If
Dial-up Networking is present then skip to STEP-3.
If
Dial-up Networking or Communications is not present, then locate
your Windows 98 CD-ROM and go to STEP 2
Step
2: Installing Dial-up Networking
1.
Go to: START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL.
2.
Double click on "Add/Remove Programs"

3.
Click on the "Windows Setup" tab (see above)
4.
Click on "Communications," Click on Details (see
below)

5.
Check the "Dial-up Networking" check box.(see below)
6.
Click OK. (see below)
7. If prompted for your Windows 98 CD-ROM insert it and type X:\WIN98
(where X is your CD-ROM drive). Press Enter.

8.
Reboot your PC.
Step
3: Adding a New Connection
1.
Go to: START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES | COMMUNICATIONS | DIAL-UP
NETWORKING.
2.
A "Welcome to Dial-Up Networking"dialog box should appear automatically.
If it does not, simply double click on the "Make New Connection"
icon.
3.
Click NEXT in the "Welcome to Dial-Up Networking" dialog
box.
4.
Type Velocity Online in the highlighted box. (see below)
5. Make sure your modem is selected in the "Select a device" box.
(see below)
6.
Click Next.

7.
Fill in your Area Code and Telephone number as below (This is
Velocity Online's Dial-Up Number NOT your home telephone number).
Click Next.

8. Verify the name is "Velocity Online" and Click Finish.

9.
Left Click the "Velocity Online" Icon one time. (see below)
10.
Go to: File | Properties.

11.
Uncheck the "Use area code and Dialing Properties" check box.
(see below)

12.
Click the "Server Types" tab.
13.
Uncheck the "Log on to network" check box. (see below)
14.
Uncheck the "NetBEUI" check box. (see below)
15.
Uncheck the "IPX/SPX Compatible" check box. (see below)
16.
Click OK.

17.
Double click the Velocity Online icon.
18.
Put in your Username and Password (given to you by a Velocity
Online Internet Specialist) and press Connect.
19.
Open your Browser (i.e. Netscape or Internet Explorer) and ENJOY
SURFING!
