Email Problems
LARGE EMAIL
When downloading email through Outlook it appears to get stuck on the same message every time.
This is caused by a large email, usually in excess of 1.5Mb. As it may
take a while to download, Outlook times out, thinking that it can no longer
talk to the server. This is a design flaw in Outlook which requires it
to see both the header (start) and footer (end) of the message to be considered
actively retrieving data. If this exceeds the server timeout period, it
is considered inactive.
There are two ways to fix this: Changing the Server Timeout.
1. Select Tools>Accounts
2. Click on the Mail tab
3. Double click your mail account (usually mail.velocityonline.net)
4. Click on Advanced.
5. Drag the slider bar until the display reads 5 minutes
On a slower connection, this may not resolve the issue. In that case,
you can view your email directly on our server
(http://mail.velocityonline.net)
USING NORTON ANTIVIRUS
WITH EMAIL
When trying to download email, it says the POP3 server has not responded
in 60 seconds or something similar.
When Norton Antivirus is set for email protection, it changes the incoming
mail server (POP3) to an address similar to 127.0.0.1 or pop3.nortonantivirus.com,
which is the Norton gateway for virus scanning email. It also adds /mail.velocityonline.net
to your account name.
If you enable the Auto-Protect option in Norton Antivirus, any attachment
that attempts to run will be scanned automatically, so disabling email
protection should not open your computer to viruses.
To remove the Norton mail server:
1. Select Tools>Accounts
2. Click on the Mail tab
3. Double click your mail account (usually mail.velocityonline.net)
4. Select Servers
5. Replace the Incoming Mail Server with mail.velocityonline.net
6. Remove /mail.velocityonline.net from the Account Name/Login section
7. Click Apply, then Ok
You will then need to disable Email Protection in your Norton software.
