What should I do if my computer is taking a long time to connect?
Double click on "My Computer," double click on "Dial-up Networking," right click on "Velocity Online," go down to properties and left click on properties. What causes my computer to give me a password error?
  • Either the Username or the Password will cause the password error. Make sure you are typing in the correct Username and password and that you do not have any extra spaces and that the password is typed in the correct case (upper or lower). Our default setup is lower case unless you specify that it is to be capitalized. Do not put @Lewisweb.net after your Username in the Username field.
  • The account is already in use. If a computer is logged in using your Username and password, then you will be unable to connect with that Username until the first computer disconnects.
  • The account is expired. Your payment has not been recieved or entered into our billing system yet.

My computer says "The computer is not receiving a response from the modem."
  • You can try rebooting your computer and trying again.
  • Try dialing into our secondary modems by dialing 222-5531. These are slower modems but so modems like them better.
  • If you are still getting this message, there is something wrong with either your modem or your modem drivers. As a temporary fix, try this: Go to My Computer, open up Dial-Up Networking. Right-click on the Velocity Online icon and select Properties. Click on the Configure button, then click on the Connection Tab. Click on the Advanced button in the lower right corner. Add 'ATZ' (without quotes) to the Extra Settings box. Then Click OK, then OK, then OK.
  • If this does not work we recommend you take your computer to our service center to have the modem checked out.

My computer says "There is no dial tone."
Make sure you have a phone line running to the back of your computer to the jack marked 'line' or 'wall'. Make sure this is a working phone line. If you have voicemail on that phone line and your line 'stutters' the dial tone to alert you to messages, be sure you have no messages pending. The computer will not recognize the stuttered dial tone and will return this error. As a last resort reboot and try again. If you still have no success, you will need to have your modem checked out by a technician.

Windows 98 has a problem with the WINSOCK2 you can remove "Dial-up Networking" and delete the registry entry for the winsock2 (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services (WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system!!)) Finally reboot your machine and reinstall Dial-up Networking.
